Mountain biking and hiking in the North West Scottish Highlands

The North Scottish Highland county of Sutherland is a very special place. It contains some of the most wildest and uninhabited areas of the British Isles. It is where my maternal family is from, where I learnt to walk and had all my childhood holidays. Aged four I was hiking across the Moorlands (being fed continual chocolate digestive biscuits to keep me going by my mother). I simply love this place for its stunning beauty and complete freedom. Also, if you like outdoor sports, its one big giant playground!

So remote is it that you can only access the foothills by four wheel drive car, mountain bike, it is some 12 miles from the nearest public road. It is an incredible adventure. For climbers needing refuge during the night or from bad weather there are a scattered "Bothy's" which are there for all to use. Normally these Bothy's were old crofting houses (or remote schools) that have been given a new lease of life and rebuilt with a lot of love and effort by volunteers of the Mountain Bothy Association (MBA).

Invitation to WorldView-4 Launch in Vandenberg

In September 2016, elseco was invited by DigitalGlobe to attend the Launch event of WorldView-4 in Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, and was represented by Romain Loubeyre.

The first day of the event comprised a Launch Mission briefing by the different stakeholders, a visit to the launch pad to view the Atlas 5 rocket from up-close, and a reception for all the attendants.

The second day was dedicated to the Launch mission and the attendants were transported to a site nearby the Launch Pad to witness the launch live.

Unfortunately, in order to ensure the success of the mission, the launch was delayed until further notice. It was nonetheless a great opportunity to meet our partners and to view the Launch Pad and rocket live, which is always a good reminder of why we chose space insurance as a career path.

2XU Triathlon Championships Dubai, March 18th 2016

Our Chairman and CEO, Laurent Lemaire challenged a couple of well known London Market brokers (Yamin Mustafa and Peter Elson) to a Sprint Triathlon, here in Dubai.

Not only did these three fit men complete the 750m Swim, 24km Bike and 5km Run but Laurent had his whole family out on the course whom successfully picked up a first place team medal.

Special congratulations go to Yamin for taking up and challenge and successfully completing his first Triathlon competition.

Asking Peter and Yamin to comment on their Triathlon experience with us here in Dubai:

Peter: "In a moment of weakness late one evening last year, Yamin and I rashly accepted Laurent's challenge to compete together in a triathlon in Dubai. I don't think any of us really believed we would do it. But we're absolutely delighted we did. It proved to be a tremendously enjoyable event, our participation superbly organised for us by the elseco team, and not just an experience we survived but one we will look back upon fondly for many years. Overall, I'm sure I would do more triathlons if I could do then like we did in Dubai - it certainly beat a freezing, murky lake and dodging potholes and traffic back home!"

Yamin: "Just to add to the very nice words composed by Peter I just wanted to say that your hospitality and arrangements was very much appreciated and that that I will always remember my first (of many – I hope!) triathlon. The event was truly a gentle way to be introduced to the sport and having seen how you have successfully made it a ‘family affair’ you have inspired me to try and do the same with my own family. Wish me luck!"
